Inlays and Onlays

Patients at Fresh Meadows Dental Care benefit from a number of treatments which can restore lost or damaged teeth. Some of these are cosmetic, while others are major surgery, but one procedure which restores bite function with minimal invasiveness is placement of a partial crown.

Partial crowns are called “inlays” or “onlays” depending on how much of a tooth they replace. Molars and premolars, the grinding teeth, are comprised of points, called cusps, separated by indentations. When the surface of a tooth is decayed or damaged, an inlay is used to cover the indentation, while an onlay replaces both the indentation and at least one of the cusps.

Dr. Hakimzadeh will remove the damaged part of the tooth before making an impression of the patient’s mouth. This impression is sent to a dental lab, where a unique partial crown is manufactured. It will take about two weeks to be shipped to our office, during which the patient will wear a temporary crown. Once the partial crown arrives, it can be cemented in during just one appointment. The patient will care for it like a fully natural tooth and be able to chew normally.

Farid Hakimzadeh, DDS, operates Fresh Meadows Dental Care at 58-47 Francis Lewis Blvd., Suite 100, Oakland Gardens, New York, 11364. To schedule an appointment, call 718-224-7272 or visit FreshMeadowsDental.com and fill out a contact form.
